Turtle Brownies
My mom makes this every holiday season. SO GOOD.
I've messed with this recipe by altering the quantity of nuts, chocolate, and caramel. All have turned out great. Just don't put too much caramel -- they fall apart!
Serves 24 - 2 inch square pieces
Prep time: 20 minutes; Baking: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 package German Chocolate cake mix
- 3/4 cup melted Oleo or margarine
- 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup chopped pecans (or other nuts)
- 6 oz. chocolate chips
- 10 oz. caramels
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350
- Mix first 4 ingredients together
- Pat 1/2 mixture into greased and floured 9 X 13 pan
- Bake at 350 for 6 minutes
- Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips. While this is cooling:
- Melt caramels and evaporated milk and spread over chocolate chips -- keep stirring or it will burn - put about med-high heat
- Spread remaining cake mix crumble across top of caramel mixture
- Bake for 15 minutes further
- Cool for at least 5 minutes
